Cricket Mountain Writing Retreat 2014

Cricket Mountain

Cricket Mountain is a small, week-long Vermont writing retreat, now in its second year. For 2014, it will be held in a chalet in Wells, Vermont from Sunday June 15th to Sunday, June 22nd. Writers of fiction, poetry, plays, and/or screenplays are eligible to attend by invitation or if members of Codex Writers Group or The Burlington Writers Workshop. Anticipated cost to attend (registration plus lodging), not including food, will be $200-$300 per person for the week, though this is just a preliminary estimate and will depend on our specific location as well as sleeping arrangements (more room and/or privacy may come at a higher price).

Fun fact: The total cost of attending Cricket Mountain turns out to be literally less than that of starving yourself in a cheap hotel room.

The main activity will be large amounts of undisturbed writing and writing discussion in a comfortable natural setting. Daily meditation sessions and (if there’s interest) free Taekwondo classes will be offered. Based on participants’ preferences, there may also be critique sessions, writing presentations and seminars, exercise opportunities, hikes, fishing trips, dinners out, opportunities to make music, movies, etc. Interested participants can participate in shared meals and cooking/cleanup rotations to maximize time available for writing and eating and minimize time spent shopping, cooking, and cleaning up. Alternatively, you can bring and cook your own food.

Hiking, biking, fishing, and perhaps swimming should be possible. Last year’s location in Cavendish, Vermont worked out beautifully. This year’s looks even better. Here are a few pictures:

We’re close to capacity for the retreat, but a few more spots may be possible for those who are interested: contact Luc through the contact form on this site to inquire.
