Diana Rowland: Writers, Don’t Make This Mistake

Writing

Diana Rowland, a Writers of the Future grand prize winner, fellow Codexian, and author of both the successful Kara Gillian series (Mark of the Demon, Blood of the Demon, and Secrets of the Demon) and the upcoming My Life as a White Trash Zombie, has this advice, which I was embarrassed never to have thought of myself:

Having committed Fail on this front a few times now, I’d like to pass along a suggestion for those of you working on novels (whether sold or yet-to-be sold.)

Keep a file where you can keep track of everyone who has helped you with your book, whether with research help, unwavering support, or critique.
That way, when it comes time for you to write up your acknowledgments, you won’t be doing what I always seem to do which is to forget about them until the editor nags you about them and then perform a desperate mental scramble to put a list together wherein you invariably leave someone out. (For my last demon book I left out my husband and daughter. Gah!)

Learn from my mistakes! 😀
